Red Phone, got a question. There is a sign across the street
from Nordstrom school on Murphy Avenue advertising new homes coming
to Morgan Hill called Milano. Apparently there will be 68 homes, 24
in the first phase. My question is: where do they plan on those
children going to school?
“Red Phone, got a question. There is a sign across the street from Nordstrom school on Murphy Avenue advertising new homes coming to Morgan Hill called Milano. Apparently there will be 68 homes, 24 in the first phase. My question is: where do they plan on those children going to school? I know Nordstrom is pretty full. Do they plan on redrawing boundaries?”
Red Phone: Dear Where Will They Go, Red Phone contacted Deputy Superintendent Bonnie Tognazzini, who said there are no current plans to redraw boundaries within the district.
“Currently the students within the Nordstrom boundary would typically attend Nordstrom Elementary School, however this elementary has been full for many years now,” she said. “As new students enroll in grades where there is no additional space, we often offer them another school site where there is room at that grade level.”
And, due to budget constraints, the district is moving to 24 students to a class for the 2010-11 school year for all kindergarten through 3rd grade classes. This will provide additional space at almost all schools, Tognazzini said.
Park pond will be filled, but not now
“Red Phone, I’m a part-time resident of Morgan Hill and I’ve heard its possible the lovely ponds near Centennial Recreation Center may be done away with and several of my senior friends and I would like to complain. It’s the only pond in Morgan Hill, don’t take it away. How can we make our feelings known?”
Red Phone: Dear Keep the Ponds, unfortunately, at least for you and your friends, the ponds will eventually be replaced, according to Mori Struve, deputy director of the Morgan Hill Public Works Department. The Master Plan for Community Park Improvements consists of three phases of work. The first phase included new tennis courts and a new restroom building. This work was completed in 2004-05.
“Phase II improvements include the creation of informal play fields where the pond is now, water play features near the middle of the park, and an additional restroom building,” Struve said. “However, while planned for fiscal year 2013-14, funding for the Phase II improvements has not been approved.”
So while the ponds will be filled at some point, it’s at least three to four years away, and with the economy lagging and the city struggling to close a $1.7 million deficit, it could take even longer, so enjoy the ponds.
As far as making your feelings known, you took the first step in calling Red Phone. Next, contact the Parks and Recreation Commission or attend a meeting. The council will discuss its Capital Improvement Plan in June, though the dates is not yet set. You can also call 776-7333 or send an e-mail to mo*********@***********ca.gov.
