It was great! Anyone who saw or was part of it knows exactly what I’m talking about – our 2005 fall homecoming! Even though both varsity and jv had a tough loss, all of our fun festivities went perfectly.
Lindsey Turner and Alyx Martinez, this year’s rally commissioners, put on a fun and exciting homecoming rally Friday afternoon after lunch to hype up the nuts for the afternoon’s activities. The royal court from each class was introduced along with the club queens. Also, the seniors of the football team were introduced by their captains. There were awesome performances by our Latin Dance Club, cheer and song girls, and the hip hop team. To conclude each rally, one student was chosen at random and won an $80 shopping spree good at any of our somewhat nearby malls.
As soon as the bell rang, kids and parents gathered all along Main and Peak Avenue to watch our annual homecoming parade. Each club queen had a convertible to ride in with their escorts and wave to all of their fans. The parade was also the time that the sophomore, junior, and senior floats were unveiled. The sophomores’ theme was ‘fun in the sun;’ the juniors’ theme was ‘Hollywood;’ and the seniors blew everyone away with their creation of an aircraft carrier from ‘Top Gun.’ The parade brought out a huge crowd and I know everyone in the parade was happy to have so many fans. The passers-by on 101 even had to slow to get a look as the floats and convertibles made their trek over the overpass.
At the big game that night, the stands were packed to hear the winner of the float competition, discover the identity of our homecoming queen, and see the half-time show fireworks light up the sky. Legend didn’t let down with the winner of the float competition being the big bad seniors. Our Top Gun theme blew past the juniors and sophomores, though they did put lots of effort into their themes as well. After a couple rides around the track in golf carts, the 5 nominees for homecoming queen were introduced. And if you haven’t heard word yet, our queen was none other than Allyson Yamashita. She was voted queen out of a wonderful group of girls and received her tiara with a huge smile. To celebrate our queen and top off our homecoming week, the lights went out and the fireworks went up. Our third annual fireworks homecoming display was spectacular and was a tremendous hit with each and every watcher in the crowd.
It was extremely busy, but so much fun. I hope most of you that wanted to made it out to see some of our festivities last week. And if not, just wait ’til next year! It will be just a nutty!
