WEEKNIGHT HIGHLIGHTS
Blue Jays: Eric Clymer had a monster game with a bases-loaded, bases-clearing double, a stolen base, one run scored and a follow-up hit later in the game. Great pitching from Brandon Kubogamell, Eric Swensen, Anthony Ditta and Luke Newquist. Garret Kinsey, Zander Cornejo, Anthony Ditta, Brandon Kubogamell, Eric Swensen and Jarod Hatch all contributed offensively, and the whole team played great defense.
Nationals: Brad Bonfante had a two-run double in the sixth to provide the winning margin. With runners on second and third in the seventh, Dalton Habina caught a deep fly ball in center field and threw to second to get the runner for the final out.
Astros: Anthony Picchi pitched a great first three innings, while Jesse Medina came in relief to pitch for the first time this season.
Orioles: Robbie Ortiz pitched five great innings, made a great play at home to save a would-be inside-the-park home run. Kevin Onyejekwe tripled and scored twice.
WEEKEND HIGHLIGHTS
A’s: Parker Andrews went 3 for 4, and Riley Burg pitched five strong innings, giving up one run.
Red Sox: Zach Robertson, Cassi Orth, Justin Sanders and Richie Sigona led a strong hitting attack. Sanders struck out six in five innings.
Yankees: Cameron Savage had a two-run double, and Justin Cong caught a game-ending fly ball in left field. Pitchers Justin Nelson and Michael Montez didn’t allow any walks.
Blue Jays: Luke Newquist and Brandon Kubogamell contributed two hits apiece. Another two scoreless innings pitched by Eric Swensen, running his streak to seven shutout innings. Mathew Vera made a nice catch in center field and completed a double play with a strike to first base.
Astros: Saul Lopez pitched very well for three innings, while Anthony Saso and Joey Mitchell came in to close out the game. Anthony Saso was 2 for 5 with doubles, and Anthony Picchi went 2 for 5 with two walks. Anthony Martinez and Jesse Medina played great defense in the outfield and at second.
Giants: Jacob Ryder threw several players out at first from second and shortstop. He was accurate and instinctively knew where the ball needed to go each play.
Orioles: Michael Filice got a nice double and later came in to score. Justin Baker also doubled. Michael Castanada went 3 for 3 and later scored.
