Locals blow six-run lead, fall 18-8 to San Jose PAL
LOS GATOS — The Morgan Hill All-Stars got off to a great start in the Pony Section Tournament on Sunday, at least for the first two innings.
Morgan Hill built a 6-0 lead against San Jose PAL only to be outscored 18-2 the rest of the way. San Jose PAL capitalized off a string of Morgan Hill errors to win 18-8 in Los Gatos and push the local team to the brink of elimination.
“It was just one of those things. When one thing went bad, it snowballed into another,” Morgan Hill manager Manny Brum said. “We’re still alive, but we need to cut down on mistakes.”
Morgan Hill will play a combined team from Sunnyvale and Cupertino at 5:30 p.m. today in the losers’ bracket.
Brum is confident his team should be in the winner’s bracket.
“We walked too many batters and, basically, lost because of mistakes,” he said.
Sean Aitken, Frankie Tomasello and Dalton Craig batted 2 for 3 with a double for Morgan Hill. Aitken scored twice, and Tomasello once to go with two RBIs.
Today’s winner will face the loser of Tuesday’s game between San Jose PAL and Los Gatos at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
