MH golfer to play at Spyglass Aug. 2-3
MONTEREY — Amay Poria of Morgan Hill qualified for the Northern California Golf Association Junior Championships by tying for second place in a qualifying tournament held Thursday at Laguna Seca Golf Ranch.
Poria, 14, matched Arroyo Grande’s Adam Zakaria at 4-over-par 76 in the boys 14-15 division. They finished two strokes behind winner Sebastian Crampton of Aptos.
Poria started the hot day strong, parring his first three holes. He finished the round with three birdies.
An incoming freshman at Oakwood Country School, Poria will now prepare for the 81st NCGA Junior Championships, which will take place Aug. 2-3 at Spyglass Hill Golf Course. He will forego the upcoming U.S. Kids Teen Championships.
Thursday’s qualifier marked the third straight runner-up finish for Poria, who tied for second at a June 28 event in the U.S. Kids Round Hills Country Club Summer Series and the Summer Stretch Junior Tournament on June 24.
