A recitation of the Holy Rosary and a Catholic Blessing Service will be held on Sunday and Monday for Virginia Walsh who died at Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz on July 26, 2010, following a lengthy illness. She was 80 years old.

Born in Gilroy, raised in San Martin and Morgan Hill she graduated from Live Oak High School (Class of 1950), and then began a career as a vocational nurse where she worked for various hospitals and nursing homes, including Wheeler Hospital in Gilroy and Stanford Children’s Hospital.

Virginia and her husband Leonard have resided in Boulder Creek for the past 47 years, and attended St. Michael’s Catholic Church. Her family will forever cherish the many memories of Virginia’s love for them. She was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother, caring for her family and their concerns, even as her health began to fail.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Leonard Walsh of Boulder Creek, her three daughters, Sheila Walsh, Patty Walsh, Carolyn Walsh, and her son, Tim Walsh, all of Boulder Creek; two sisters, Ruth Johnson and Marion Houser, and her brother, James Alter all residing in Morgan Hill. She also leaves her two grandsons Austin and William Sohoza of Boulder Creek. Also many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother Alice Alter of Morgan Hill and her sister Grace Sturla of Merced.

Friends may pay their respects at Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel on Sunday, August 1, 2010, from 1:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 5:00 P.M. at the chapel. The funeral ceremony and committal will be held at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery, (Winchester and Bellamy in Santa Clara) on Monday, August 2, 2010, beginning at 11:00 A.M.

Donations may be made in her name to Dominican Hospital of Santa Cruz.
