A parolee on a bicycle was arrested for attempting to sell drugs, police said.

Morgan Hill police saw George Barraza, 39 of Morgan Hill, riding a bicycle with no lights near the intersection of Dunne Avenue and Church Street Saturday night about 9:11 p.m., Sgt. Jerry Neumayer said. Officers recognized Barraza as a possible parolee and attempted to stop him.

Barraza tried to flee from police on his bicycle, but officers were able to catch up to him in the parking lot of the Community and Cultural Center, Neumayer said.

Police tried to arrest him, but Barraza resisted.

“They had to struggle with him and take him to the ground, and he continued to resist,” Neumayer said.

After officers cuffed him, they searched his pockets and found several individually wrapped plastic bags containing what police thought was crystal methamphetamine and marijuana. He also had glass smoking pipes on him, Neumayer said.

Barraza was arrested on suspicion of possession of narcotics for sale, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, and resisting arrest.

He was transported to Saint Louise Regional Hospital for complaints of pain to his leg, and was later booked into county jail, Neumayer said.
