Esther Corral-Carlson, Morgan Hill Unified School District’s director of curriculum and instruction for five years, accepted the position as the superintendent for Patterson Unified School District in Stanislaus County. She was welcomed by Patterson’s school board at their Aug. 16 meeting.

Corral-Carlson is a Gilroy native and worked in Gilroy education for 29 years, including 17 as a principal.

She told Patterson’s local newspaper that the smaller size of the school district really appealed to the mother of three and grandmother of four, who went to Gavilan College and later San Jose State University.

“For me, it’s important to get to know people. When it’s a smaller district, I feel that’s really doable to get around to see people.”

Patterson Unified has 5,600 students among nine schools.

Corral-Carlson was showered with congratulations and compliments by the MHUSD school board and district staff at Tuesday’s evening meeting.

“It is our loss and their gain,” Trustee Kathy Sullivan told Corral-Carlson.
