Sobrato’s Cambra becomes first Santa Teresa player to 10 goals
in 1-1 tie with Prospect
SAN JOSE — The Lady Acorns have waited almost a year for this week’s showdown with Willow Glen — a chance for them to repay the team that barely kept them out of the Central Coast Section girls soccer playoffs last winter.
Friday, Live Oak kept its sights on Pioneer.
The Acorns won a defensive battle with the Mustangs, 1-0, in San Jose, getting a goal by Tiffany Geer in the second half and a perfect day by goalkeeper Selena Braun. Megan Rauschnot provided an assist for Live Oak (4-1-3 overall), which remained unbeaten through two Mount Hamilton Division games.
Pioneer (2-5) fell to 1-1.
The Acorns, winners in three of their last four matches, are running hot for Wednesday’s 3:15 p.m. bout at Willow Glen. That was the case in February, when the Rams ended Live Oak’s 10-game unbeaten streak on the second to last week of the regular season. Trailing 2-0, Willow Glen netted three goals in the final 14 minutes, including the game winner in stoppage time, to tip the Acorns 3-2.
Live Oak’s second-place finish in the Santa Teresa Division was enough to keep the Acorns out of CCS, while the league champion Rams received an automatic berth. Both teams ascended to the Mount Hamilton this offseason.
Willow Glen (1-2-2, 1-1) will visit Live Oak on Feb. 5.
SHS draws even with Prospect
Sobrato junior Jennae Cambra became the first Santa Teresa player to score 10 goals this season Friday. Her team celebrated by extending its unbeaten streak to four games.
Cambra found the net off of an assist by Bekah Inouye in the first half as the Lady Bulldogs earned a 1-1 tie against visiting Prospect.
Sobrato (3-1-3, 1-0-1), which has not lost since Dec. 8, also received 12 saves from Maggie Cropp.
