2-0 win over S.C. gives LO sole possession of first
MORGAN HILL — Alejandro Diaz scored on a penalty kick, and Ubaldo Lopez added an insurance goal in the first half Saturday as Live Oak completed a quiet rise to the top of the West Valley Division with a 2-0 triumph over previously unbeaten Silver Creek.
The victory at the Outdoor Sports Center gave the Acorns (3-2-6 overall, 2-0-2 league) sole possession of first place by less than a game over the visiting Raiders (3-1-1, 2-1-1).
It was difficult to picture this at the beginning of January, when Live Oak ended nonleague play with five ties, two losses and no wins. Nevertheless, the Acorns control their own destiny toward a division crown and automatic entry to the Central Coast Section playoffs with nine league matches remaining.
Westmont 2, SHS 0
Sobrato’s three-game unbeaten streak in Santa Teresa Division play ended with a whimper Friday, as the Bulldogs lost 2-0 at Westmont.
Jackson Vlay scored both goals for the undefeated Warriors (6-0-4, 4-0-1), who have won four straight.
Austin Jackson tallied six shots and Jovani Franco four for Sobrato (3-3-5, 2-2-2).
