Gilroy residents Vanessa Parraz, 21, and James Wright, 24, started the new year with a shock: a new baby.
Roxanne Krystal Munoz Parraz Wright was born three weeks early at Saint Louise Regional Hospital at 3:12 a.m. Jan. 2, weighing 5 pounds, 15.5 ounces. Roxanne was the first South County baby of the new decade.
But to Parraz, she was nearly two months early. Parraz had only recently found out she was pregnant and thought she had until late February for her first bundle of joy to arrive.
The baby shower, planned by her mother Jessie Munoz for the third week of February, has quickly been reorganized into a welcoming party Jan. 30.
“We were going to have her a surprise baby shower, instead the baby surprised us!” Munoz said.
Parraz, who lives with her mother, said her family has brought her a flurry of baby clothes and other necessities over the past few days to set her up. She had yet to gather the necessary supplies, she said.
Aside from her grand entrance into the world, Roxanne has been a low-maintenance baby.
“She’s a good baby. She’s quiet, and tiny. She makes these funny little faces,” Parraz said. “She’s precious. She’s a joy to have.”
As per tradition, Saint Louise Regional gave the family a celebratory baby basket.
Aside from raising Gilroy’s first baby of the new decade, Parraz plans to spend 2010 going to a Milpitas college to study criminal justice.
