Standout goal-scorers named to first-team list
Starting all four years in water polo at Live Oak High School is a rare achievement. Danny Robinson did it in all-league fashion.
Robinson, one of the most prolific scorers in program history, has been named first-team all-Mount Hamilton Division after leading the Acorns in goals during their run to the Central Coast Section Division II quarterfinals. The senior hole set found the back of the cage more than 180 times this fall and was also a key contributor on defense.
“He’s had a fantastic career,” Live Oak coach Mack Haines said of Robinson, who was league Junior of the Year in 2009, Sophomore of the Year in 2008 and second-team all-league in 2007. “He played a different role every year. As a freshman, he learned how to play defense because that’s what we needed. The last few years, he really concentrated on offense and was able to carry us scoring-wise.”
Following the past of several past LOHS greats who went on to play for four-year colleges, Robinson will hone his skills next year while playing under Bruce Watson at West Valley College.
Robinson will likely need to switch back to a defensive role.
“I think he’s up for the task,” Haines said.
Robinson was joined on the all-league list by three local juniors, including teammate Saul Orona who had the second-most goals for the Acorns. Orona earned second-team honors as a utility player.
Following its best season in program history, Sobrato produced two honorees in first-team hole set Adam Jasper and second-team goalkeeper Patrick Read.
Both were instrumental in helping the Bulldogs finish a win away from earning their first CCS-playoff berth in the Blossom Valley Athletic League Tournament.
“They were two of the best players on our team,” first-year Sobrato coach Dave Letts said. “They worked hard every day, and it showed. They have the potential to be the best at their position in league next year.”
