MORGAN HILL — If it was physically rational, the top four female swimmers at Live Oak High School could compete in as many as 18 events combined at the Central Coast Section Championship meet, and that number has plenty of time to grow.
Katie Rick, Sarah D’Angelo, Rachel Cretcher and Michelle Mikaelsson added the third and final relay to their collection Monday. The foursome won the 400-yard freestyle relay in three minutes, 48.94 seconds at LOHS, helping the Lady Acorns beat Willow Glen 87-72 to earn a second win in Mount Hamilton Division dual meets.
They took part in six individual victories as well. D’Angelo touched first in the 100-yard backstroke (1:06.49) and 100-yard freestyle (57.51), finishing less than a second off a CCS standard in the latter event, and Mikaelsson won the 100-yard butterfly (1:04.87) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:12), which the sophomore will likely swim in the section preliminaries May 21.
Rick placed first in the 200-yard freestyle (2:01.83), and Cretcher the 50-yard freestyle (25.99). Both swimmers have already qualified in those events.
The Live Oak boys remained winless in league, falling 92-74, but received a win in the 200-yard individual medley (2:10.57) by freshman Ryan McCombs, who is closing in on a second individual CCS standard.
McCombs, who has qualified in the 50 freestyle, is part of of a 200 freestyle relay — joining Danny Robinson, Cody Coleman and Saul Orona — that missed the CCS mark of 1:35.39 by less than two seconds Monday.
