Morgan Hill resident Sandra Arlia, 66, will appear in court for a pre-trial proceeding in connection with a vehicular manslaughter charge.

Arlia is scheduled to appear in South County Courthouse Thursday morning.

She faces the misdemeanor charge in relation to the death of bicyclist Rory Tomasello. Police said Arlia struck cyclist Rory Tomasello, 22, with her 2004 Cadillac sport-utility vehicle while Tomasello was riding through a crosswalk on West Edmundson Ave., Oct. 23, 2009.

Tomasello was conscious at the scene of the accident, but was disoriented and transported to the hospital with redness to his neck and stomach, and complaints of pain. He died as a result of his injuries Nov. 2, 2009, according to police.

Arlia pleaded not guilty to the charge in January.

If convicted of the charge of vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence, she could face up to a one-year jail sentence.
