come-from-behind 7-5 win over the Warriors on Tuesday
MORGAN HILL — The Live Oak baseball team has a break from action Friday to host its annual golf tournament in Gilroy. With the way they’re playing, the Acorns might want to squeeze in another seven innings this weekend.
They lost 9-1 Wednesday at Westmont but, before that, climbed back into the middle of the Mount Hamilton Division with two much-needed consecutive wins.
The latest was Tuesday when Live Oak overcame a five-run deficit to beat Westmont 7-5 at Sarich Field. The Acorns (6-7 overall, 4-6 league) scored all of their runs in the sixth inning after giving up three runs in the first and two in the second.
Jakob Conlan came through with three RBIs and pitched five scoreless innings in relief to pick up his first win of the season. The sophomore struck out four.
Cody Van Aken doubled and a tripled for the second straight game, and Ryan Muir added a double and an RBI for Live Oak, which had eight hits.
Chad Christopher homered and scored twice, Thomas Marlen doubled and Casey Thompson drove in two runs to lead the Warriors.
Westmont (6-7-1, 4-5-1) pulled even the next day behind two hits and two RBIs by sophomore Justin Edgar and a three-hitter thrown by Brian Scott (2-1), who struck out nine.
Conlan scored the only run for visiting Live Oak.
Santa Teresa 7, SHS 3
The Bulldogs fell a game behind the second-place Saints (8-4, 6-3) in the Mount Hamilton but can make that up Friday when the teams meet again at 3:30 p.m. at Sobrato High School.
For the Bulldogs (5-7, 5-4), Ryan Williams homered, and Bryan Bradley had two hits.
BOYS TENNIS
Behind a singles sweep, the Bulldogs won 4-3 Tuesday at Oak Grove to earn their second victory in Santa Teresa Division matches.
Tyler Pecsok, Zach Thomas, Jacob Mendiola and Mitch Schenkelberg won for Sobrato (2-6 league).
BOYS GOLF
Live Oak picked up its first league win Tuesday, beating Branham 235-247 at Summitpointe Golf Club.
The Acorns moved to 2-8 overall and 1-4 in the Mount Hamilton.
Monday, Sobrato fell 209-225 to Santa Teresa at San Jose Municipal Golf Course, dropping to 2-4 and 2-2.
