Nine Bay Area teams will visit Live Oak High for the second
annual Raymond Relays meet this weekend. Along with the host
Acorns, and crosstown rival Sobrato, Salinas, Greenfield,
Independence, Leland, Overfelt, East Side Prep and Sequoia will
send squads to the unique meet, which features a series of track
and field relay events.
“This is an opportunity to highlight Live Oak with the new
all-weather track, it give athletes a chance to compete and it’s an
opportunity for parents to come out and watch them,” LO track coach
Dean Raymond said. The field events begin at 9am, with the track
events starting at 9:30am.

LO softball
Senior ace Juliette Bowers tossed her second consecutive one-hitter to lead the Acorn softball team to a 3-0 victory over visiting Del Mar on Wednesday. Bowers struck out 12. LO (2-0) scored once in the second on Sabrina LaCorte’s RBI single, and added two more runs in the fifth on Bowers’ RBI triple and Alyssa Adamo’s RBI single.
The Acorns were set to begin play in the LO-sponsored Circle of Champions Tournament at Twin Creeks last night. Today, LO was scheduled to play San Lorenzo Valley at 6pm and Milpitas at 8pm in pool play. The 32-team varsity tourney continues next weekend.
Meanwhile, the LO JV won two out of three this week behind the pitching of Tricia Goularte, beating Notre Dame-Belmont 4-2 and Del Mar 13-0, and losing to Mitty 3-0.
LO swimming
In their lone non-league dual meet, the LO boys swim team won and the Acorn girls lost to Leland on Wednesday.
Top individual winners for LO included: Ryan Gautschi (50 free, 100 breast), Dennis Lowe (100 fly), Shea Coleman (400 relay), Justin Short (200 free, 100 free), Mike Wu (200 IM), Ronni Gautschi (100 fly, 100 back), and Laura Melroy (200 IM, 100 free).

Despite fine outings by three of their four singles players, the Acorn boys lost a tough 4-3 decision in its league opener against Palma on Thursday. No. 1 Nick Matsumoto, No. 2 Eric Matsumoto and No. 4 Jacob Haim all won for LO.
