Accolades and awards were distributed to the “Mighty Acorns, Class of 2003,” as Live Oak High held its annual Awards of Excellence Night on Wednesday.

The valedictorian and salutatorian of the class, Laura Marshall and Raimy Boban, were honored, and the Outstanding Boy, Andrew Cunningham, and Outstanding Girl, Jennifer Moody, were recognized.

“It was a very special evening,” said organizer and teacher Kiki Nakauchi. “The gym was full. Parents and friends of the graduates were there in force to witness the culmination of the members of the Class of 2003 in academics and service to their school and community.”

Approximately $450,000 in scholarships were awarded to 160 students.

Twenty graduates received Silver Cords to wear during graduation to represent their outstanding service to the school and community. The top 10 percent of the graduating class, or 54 students, received Gold Cords to wear at graduation representing academic excellence.

Central High students have also been working hard, and as a result, the school will again have more than 50 students graduating. Last year’s 52 graduates set a record at the school that this year’s prospective graduates have been working hard to duplicate or exceed.
