Sometimes it seems like Live Oak High ace pitcher Juliette Bowers can go on pitching all day long. On Thursday, the Acorns almost needed her to.
While Bowers shut down host Gilroy well into extra innings, the Acorn softball team’s offense finally rallied in support of her outstanding effort, scoring three runs in the ninth (second extra) inning to secure a 3-0 victory.
Live Oak coach Barry McDonnell said his team was extra focused after dropping a disappointing 5-0 decision to visiting Notre Dame on Tuesday.
“The girls were really focused and played hard — they knew they played really good against Notre Dame,” McDonnell said. “I think they used that (against Gilroy).”
Live Oak (3-2 in league, 7-6 overall) got an RBI single from Alyssa Adamo and a two-run single from Kaitlyn Rauschnot in the ninth-inning rally.
Bowers, who allowed just four hits in the complete-game victory, was supported by fine defensive play, including a run-saving catch and double play by sophomore left fielder Raelyn Ferry in the first inning.
