Mount Madonna YMCA is launching a new healthy living initiative, called “50 MOVING FORWARD: Journey to a Healthier Future,” with a kick-off event at 6:30 p.m. today at the Centennial Recreation Center in Morgan Hill.

The program is designed to motivate adults 50 years and older with fresh ideas around behaviors that experts say are crucial to healthy aging. Participants will be schooled on health, preventive measures, fitness and fun.

“50 moving forward takes into account the busy lives of residents so they can participate in programs and activities that provide them with the opportunity to enhance their overall health,” said Keri Russell, Associate Executive Director of Mt. Madonna YMCA.

The program, which includes wellness events and activity classes such as a line dance group and a healthy eating seminar, goes beyond the basic tenets of healthy eating and physical activity, highlights the importance of helping prevent health problems before they arise through screenings and vaccinations, and the health benefits of staying socially active and connected.
