Virginia Brown Snead, very possibly San Benito County’s oldest resident, died here June 22, 2009. She had celebrated her 108th birthday on June 4th of this year at the Mabie Center, Southside, in Hollister.

Virginia was born in San Francisco in 1901, and lived in San Benito County until she graduated from high school and San Benito Junior College. She left Hollister to attend the University of California at Berkeley, graduating with a BA in history in 1923. Mrs. Snead resided in the Bay Area until the age of 100 when failing health prompted her move to this area.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Christian Snead, and her sister and brother-in-law, Kate and Bart Sullivan, and is survived by nieces, Virginia Bradt and Carol O’Brien and nephew Tim Sullivan (Martha) as well as numerous great-great nieces and nephews and one great-great-great niece.

For the past eight years she was lovingly attended by her caregiver, Adriana Helt.

In accordance with Mrs. Snead’s wishes, there will be no memorial service and private interment in Oakland will follow cremation.
