Although the summer will be one day shorter for Morgan Hill School District students, they and their families will have an extra day during the Thanksgiving holiday to travel or thaw their turkeys.

The School Board voted Thursday night to start the 2003-2004 school year for students on Tuesday, Aug. 26. The teacher and student calendars are developed by the district, the teachers’ union and service union. The teacher calendar is still being negotiated.

The unions and the district agreed, however, that in order to receive the Wednesday prior to Thanksgiving – Nov. 26 – as a holiday, they would be willing to start school one day earlier this summer.

The last day of the school year for students will be Friday, June 11.
