Work on a new sewer line designed to increase the system’s capacity in south Morgan Hill will begin Sept. 16. The work will take place over the next six months, Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm.
The project will increase the capacity of the pipeline by 78 percent, according to Maureen Tobin, spokeswoman for the City of Morgan Hill. She said the project has been a priority since the council approved the 2017 master sewer plan.
“This project was approved in June of 2018 as part of the City’s Capital Improvement Program,” Tobin wrote in an email to the Times. “The project will replace 2,200 feet of an aging 18-inch sewer line with a new 24-inch line on Tennant Avenue between Monterey Road and Railroad Avenue.”
The new sewer line will cost $2,792,400. Tobin said the cost of the new line is being split between wastewater user fees and developer impact fees. K.J. Woods Construction Inc. will install the new pipeline.
The project also includes a temporary sewer bypass system, new manholes and/or manhole modifications, manhole coating and lateral reconnections.
The city sent an email to Morgan Hill residents announcing the work schedule.
According to the city, signs for restricted parking will be placed ahead of roadwork. “Please travel through the work zones/detours carefully or utilize alternative routes. Please plan for extra travel time when traveling through Tennant Avenue,” the city’s email said. “The City appreciates your cooperation and apologizes for any inconveniences while construction is underway as there will be some construction noise, minor inconveniences and traffic delays during the work.”
