Dear Editor,
As an Aptos (Rio Del Mar) resident, I was dismayed to read “Making the most of the coast: a teen’s guide” in today’s Morgan Hill Times.
Our Aptos beaches are often frequented by both local and out-of-town teenagers. They come to the beach to party then leave behind broken beer and hard liquor bottles, empty food containers and cigarette butts.
They often burn pallets, leaving hundreds, if not thousands, of burnt and rusty nails in the sand. Rarely, if ever, do these folks take their garbage with them. And, as a bonus, some of them will tag benches, seawalls and sidewalks with graffiti.
Frankly I’m amazed to see teenagers that have such blatant disregard for our beaches and the ocean.
This article should have advised teens to leave our beaches as they found them and to pack their trash.
These are the type of people who give tourists a bad name and why locals dread this time of year.
