News Brief
San Jose – Supervisor-elect Ken Yeager took the oath of office the morning of Dec. 12 at the Santa Clara County Government Center before beginning his term on the board of supervisors representing the cities of Campbell and Santa Clara as well as parts of west San Jose and the Burbank and Cambrian neighborhoods.

Supervisor Don Gage served as the master of ceremonies as Yeager was sworn in before Tuesday’s regularly scheduled board meeting. San Jose Mayor-elect Chuck Reed provided opening remarks.

The oath of office was administered by incoming Presiding Judge of the Superior Court Catherine Gallagher.

“I am honored to join the board of supervisors and to take on vital issues such as homelessness, public safety and protecting safety-net services,” Yeager said. “I will work with the board to find creative solutions to the difficult budget situation facing this county.”

Yeager was elected to the fourth district seat in the June primary election. He replaces Jim Beall, who was recently elected to the California State Assembly.

Yeager will serve as chair of the Children, Seniors and Families Committee and Vice Chair of the Public Safety and Justice Committee and the Legislative Committee.

“I would like to welcome Supervisor Ken Yeager to the Board of Supervisors,” Gage said. “I look forward to his contributions on behalf of the citizens of District Four.”

Yeager previously served six years on the San Jose City Council. As a San Jose City Council member, he co-chaired the Aging Services Master Plan Committee, leading the effort to link senior citizens to the services they need. Prior to that, Yeager served two terms as a Trustee of the San Jose Community College District from 1992 to 2000.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from San Jose State and a master’s degree in sociology and a Ph.D. in education from Stanford.
