In addition to school work, Kumon students complete daily assignments year-round. A total of 21 students earn a place on Kumon North America’s Advanced Student Honor Roll list for studying one to three years above their school grade level. These students were honored at the ceremony with trophies, and an additional 10 trophy awards were given for such life skills as Most Disciplined, Most Focused, Most Consistent Homework Completer and more.

One fifth grader, Manjot Kaur, was honored for having made Kumon’s Advanced Student Honor Roll list for the second year in a row. “I like Kumon,” she said. “It has really helped in school. I used to be scared of fractions and decimals. After coming to Kumon, every time we do those I now get really excited about it.”

Kumon is an after-school math and reading program that unlocks the potential of children by motivating them to achieve more on their own. Founded in Japan in 1958, the learning method uses an individualized approach that helps children develop a solid command of math and reading skills. Through daily practice and mastery of materials, students increase confidence, improve concentration and develop better study skills. Kumon has 26,000 centers in 46 countries and more than four million students studying worldwide.

“This was our first award ceremony, and it was the highlight of the year. The students work very diligently every day, and this is great motivation to keep working hard,” said Lisa Yang, Morgan Hill Kumon Instructor.

The Kumon Math and Reading Center of Morgan Hill is located at 16375 Monterey Road, Ste. 1.
