After winning the United States Specialty Sports Association World Series two weeks ago, the 12-and-under Pride of Morgan Hill softball team was honored by the Morgan Hill mayor and City Council last Wednesday.
The team was welcomed by Mayor Steve Tate and the Council to Wednesday’s meeting, where the players received a proclamation acknowledging the team’s achievements at the World Series tournament in Missouri.
Morgan Hill won the national tournament with an 8-0-1 record, allowing only 16 runs.
Coaches Gene and Penny Ciraulo gratefully accepted the award while expressing their gratitude to their team’s sponsors, and the Spirit of Morgan Hill and Pride of Morgan Hill softball programs.
During the celebration, Gene Ciraulo gave special recognition and a trophy to pitcher/shortstop Vanessa Ramos.
Ramos, who has been with the team consistently over the last four years without missing a practice or a game, was one of the key ingredients to the team’s success at the national tournament, Ciraulo said. During the World Series, Ramos contributed mightily, remaining undefeated in the four games she pitched and driving in the winning runs in all three games on championship Saturday.
Ramos was also named the tournament’s co-MVP with teammate catcher/shortstop Ally Nodohara.
