Newton Nguyen, 18
Where are you from originally? San Jose
What are your plans after high school? Attend UC-Berkeley and major in physics.
Favorite high school memory: Running on the trails with my friends and stopping to skip rocks in the creek nearby and just talking about anything. The friends I made in cross country and track and field are some of the most amazing people I have ever met.
What was your biggest challenge in high school? Taking AP calculus and AP physics as a blind student and learning how to master material.
Extracurriculars: Marching band, jazz band, pit orchestra, cross country, track and field.
What inspires you? The desire to b the best person I can be. I am determined or stubborn, depending on your perspective, to not let anything hold me back. I want to jump over hurdles and break down barriers and always look at the horizon to the future while, at the same time, reflecting on what I have done in order to better myself for the next race, performance or any event. I want to be the best person I can be while, at the same time, inspire people to be the best person they can be. It brings me a warm feeling of gratitude to have people look up to me because they view me as a positive role model. I live by the creed “to be great is to be remembered; to be remembered is to inspire.”
What’s your dream career? To be a physics professor at a highly ranked university. I want to help people, and I believe the best way to help people is through education. At the same time, I can do cutting-edge research for all of humanity.
Favorite subject of study: Physics.
