An employee of the store at 840 East Dunne Ave. said the three males “took off running” from the store with four 30-packs of Coors beer, according to police reports. The theft happened about 11:41 p.m.

The suspects, described as about 18 years old, ran toward the Home Depot and entered a black Ford Mustang, police said. The suspects fled in the vehicle.

Two of the 30-packs were left behind, in front of the CVS store next door to Safeway, police said.

MH man attacked by gang members

A young man with gang-related tattoos was attacked outside an apartment complex Saturday evening, police said.

The victim, described as a Hispanic male in his mid-20s, was in the parking lot outside the complex at Nob Hill Terrace about 7 p.m. when he was challenged and jumped, Sgt. Shane Palsgrove said.

A blue Honda Civic approached the parking lot and “at least three males” inside the car yelled gang slogans at the man, Palsgrove said. They indicated they were members of a “southern” street gang. The victim wore tattoos related to a rival northern gang, which likely led the occupants of the vehicle to challenge him.

The victim said he was not an active participant in gang activity, but the occupants of the vehicle exited the car and attacked him anyway, police said.

The attackers allegedly punched and kicked the man while he was on the ground. One of he suspects hit him on the back with a baseball bat, according to police.

The suspects then entered the car and fled, Palsgrove said.

Paramedics were called to the scene after police arrived, but the victim declined medical attention.

The victim was “not interested” in prosecuting the attackers, Palsgrove said.

The incident was referred to Morgan Hill street crimes detectives for further investigation, Palsgrove said.

DUI crackdown this weekend

Police are looking to crack down on drunken driving during the three-day Memorial Day weekend.

“The Avoid the 13 DUI campaign will be deploying officers this holiday weekend for saturation patrols to continue successful efforts toward arresting drunk drivers, lowering deaths and injuries, and educating the public about the dangers of impaired driving,” Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Sgt. Rick Sung said.

The enhanced enforcement effort will begin Friday night with extra officers on the roads, particularly in the cities of Campbell, Milpitas, Mountain View, Cupertino, Saratoga and Los Altos Hills, Sung said.

More “saturation patrols” will be out Saturday and Sunday nights.

Plus, the California Highway Patrol will deploy all available officers on freeways and county roads in their jurisdiction this weekend.

Police urge motorists and partiers to plan ahead if alcohol consumption is in their plans for the weekend, by designating a sober driver, calling a cab, or making other arrangements that don’t put them in the driver’s seat if they have been drinking, Sung said.

Sober drivers are also urged to call 911 to report suspected impaired drivers on the roads.
