Petty theft
Someone stole a front license plate off a 2007 Honda Civic, according to police reports. The crime was reported about 4 p.m. Jan. 30 on the 1500 block of Seville Drive.
Two men stole baby formula and liquor from the Safeway grocery store, 840 E. Dunne Ave., police said. The crime was reported at 3:29 p.m. Feb. 1.
Disturbance
A Morgan Hill resident told police she went to sleep at night with ear plugs in and woke to the sound of a gunshot and a male voice shouting, “Police,” according to MHPD reports. The woman told dispatch she was unsure if the noises were part of a dream. Officers responded to the area and did not find any evidence of a disturbance other than a just-delivered newspaper that might have hit the woman’s garage door. The disturbance was reported 4:17 a.m. Jan. 30.
Auto burglary
Someone smashed the window of a Mazda 6 and stole a backpack, police said. The crime was reported at Monte Vista apartments, 16925 Del Monte Ave., about 11 a.m. Jan. 30.
Fraud
A man and woman tried to pass fake traveler’s checks at Staples, 1023 Cochrane Road, according to police reports. The store did not accept the checks, which were in $1,000 denominations. The crime was reported at 3:10 p.m. Jan. 27.
Grand theft
A thief or thieves stole an asphalt compactor off a Chevrolet flat-bed truck parked on the 15200 block of Monterey Road, police said. The stolen item is worth about $2,000, and the owner told police the suspect or suspects left behind some burglary tools they used to cut cables off the compactor in order to remove it. The crime was reported about 5:30 p.m. Jan. 27.
Dog attack
A white pitbull mix broke off its leash and attacked a nearby smaller dog, according to police reports. The victim dog suffered a severe puncture wound in the hip area. The incident was reported 5:45 p.m. Jan. 21 on the 17400 block of Blue Jay Drive.
