Orlaine Tavares Franklin passed away in Hollister at the age of 88. She was born in Porterville, CA and came to Hollister in 1927. She was the daughter of James and Doris (Duncan) McDonald. She married her husband, Vaughn Franklin, in Hollister in 1996 and was predeceased by her first husband, Elmer Tavares. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who found her greatest joy in her many friends. She worked for San Benito County for many years and retired in 1983 after two terms as San Benito County Treasurer/Tax Collector and was named San Benito County Woman of the Year. After retirement she devoted her time to volunteering for the Hazel Hawkins Hospital Auxiliary Thriftshop contributing over 25,000 volunteer hours.

She is survived by her husband, Vaughn Franklin of Hollister, her children and their spouses, Laurie and Jack Modine of Ft. Pierce, FL, Jim and Diane Tavares of Hollister and Ellen and Doug Brown of Sutherlin, OR, her grandchildren, Deena Maderis Medina of Bakersfield, CA, Todd Maderis of San Anselmo, CA, Tiffany Doolittle of Chico, CA, Megan Taddei of Sutherlin, OR, Matt Tavares of Hollister, Ryan McPhail of Oakland, OR and Kayla Brown of Gilroy, CA, her great grandchildren, Haley and Logan Taddei, Jake Medina, Max and Carmen Maderis and Brody Brown.

A celebration of her life will be on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. at Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home. A reception will follow the services at St. Benedict Hall off of Fairview Rd. in Hollister.
