Sierra LaMar sadness and the slow wheels of justice
Tomorrow marks the saddest anniversary in Morgan Hill’s history. One year has passed since Sierra Lamar disappeared.

‘Love, Loss and What I Wore’
Nora and Delia Ephron (sisters) took the book “Love, Loss and What I Wore” by Ilene Bacmerman, added stories of some of their friends and their own experiences, and came up with a delightful production that hits home with most women and can tickle the funny bone of the guys in the audience. Sadly Nora Ephron died this past summer and left an enormous library of plays and books. Best known are “When Harry Met Sally,” “Sleepless in Seattle” and this play.

Our city happily going to the dogs
There are more things to like about Morgan Hill than I could list in three “Much Ado About Nothing” columns. The fantastic library. The Community Center. The athletic field and aquatic center. The list goes on and on. But the one that tops my list is the Morgan Hill Dog Park.
School marks 50 years
Morgan Hill is a very different place today than it was 50 years ago. Then it was a farming community with a population of some 4,000 residents. The sick were treated in 50-bed Wheeler Hospital in Gilroy; north-south traffic passed directly through downtown on Monterey Highway; the largest employers were a signal flare maker, a travel trailer builder and animal feed processors.

A story of resilience at a time of tragedy
Of late, I have been thinking about how vulnerable our students are. At Sobrato this year we have now had two tragic events affect our student population. In the fall, there was the shooting death of Tara Romero, along with the injuries of three other students. And now it is three weeks since the disappearance of Sierra LaMar, who was abducted while walking to the school bus stop the morning of March 16. Of course we are all hoping that she will be safely returned to her family.
