A walk in the park and other pursuits
Nothing pleases me more than to hear from a reader about a column I wrote that they particularly enjoyed or that struck a chord. It also makes me happy to hear from folks with column ideas, and recently I received such an email. It, in turn, sparked a corresponding chord with me. More about that in a bit.
Stocks and the presidential election
As an investor, you know that past performance is no guarantee of future success. Expanding that truth, history has no bearing on the future of Wall Street.
Restaurant noise levels can make or break out to dinner
Lady M and I went out to dinner the other night and what we hoped would be a quiet, romantic meal was, in part, disappointing because we could barely hear what each other had to say. That didn’t bother Lady M too much because I never have that much to say that she hasn’t heard several times before, or because what I am talking about just doesn’t interest her. I mean how can she not be interested in Buster Posey, Jumbo Joe or the ’Niners? But she isn’t. On the other hand, I love to hear about the beautiful new shoes she saw at Nordy’s, her latest recipe for a flambé, parfait, soufflé rutabaga, and about her hair dresser’s latest romance.
Enjoy ‘A Tuna Christmas’ for a good cause
“A Tuna Christmas” is coming to the Gilroy Center for the Arts this month and you don't want to miss it! Watching Kevin Heath and Bill Tindall portray 22 different wacky characters, you will be delightfully entertained. But there is much more to this performance than simply an enjoyable introduction to the holiday season.
Latter-day Saints leader visits Morgan Hill
Twice a year the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints holds conferences for local members. These important meetings include items of business (like approving appointments and changes in leadership), announcing news items and presenting inspirational messages.
Best time to visit local wineries is right now
The days of summer fun are over at the wineries. All the grapes have been picked and crushed and their juice is getting busy in the barrels - letting the aging process take over. But, before the season is over, Mother Nature has one last spectacular act in store for us. Like the last five minutes of a fireworks display where the best is saved for last, the vineyards have burst into flaming colors of red, gold and orange. As if to self-ignite themselves, the leaves that have nourished the grapes all summer long, are going out in a blaze of glory.
Facebook and politics just don’t go together
Is it just me or has the lead up to this election lasted 500 years? No? OK, fine. Maybe it just seems like it’s lasted 500 years. And for this I blame Facebook.
Say hey, when Willie’s words cast the world in a whole new light
It’s next to me, the textured binding is tattered, the stamped, indented cover title “Willie” on the orange background has scribbled black crayon on it courtesy of my younger brother – boy I was mad about that at the time. But now, it’s just added to the history. Inside the jacket cover in my mother’s practically perfect in every way handwriting are my name, 5 Maple Ave. and phone, 325-9211. The book came to me as a birthday or Christmas present in 1966. It’s a first edition, and through the care of my mother who boxed it when I flew from the nest for college and beyond, it survived.
Happy to give a response on the anti-Obama display
No sooner did South County finally get out of the news as a hotbed of bigotry – after the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors approved a much-protested proposal for a Muslim worship center in San Martin moved that story out of the spotlight – than we landed right back in the same predicament, thanks to Blake Lebeck.
