‘Cemetery Club’ brings long-time friends together
“The Cemetery Club,” Limelight Theater's current offering is a bittersweet comedy about three friends who meet once a month to celebrate the past and the present. The three widows are the surviving half of three sets of long time best friends. Although each woman is in a different stage of healing, they continue their once-a-month meetings for tea followed by a visit to the local cemetery to pay respects to their husbands.
Gilroy church welcomes all to weekend retreat
The earliest followers of Jesus of Nazareth were inspired by this simple message: Love God and love your neighbor as yourself. They shared these words with such enthusiasm that their numbers multiplied until Christianity became the dominant religion in much of the world.
Bad money habits to break in 2013
Do bad money habits constrain your financial progress? Many people fall into the same financial behavior patterns year after year. If you sometimes succumb to these financial tendencies, the New Year is as good an occasion as any to alter your behavior.
Rock of Ages: A loud blast from the past
Bring your ear plugs and get ready to blast off with what is called a “jukebox musical” of the ’80s. I don't remember the ’80s like this, but then I was considered a fairly sane individual at that time. If you desire some of what the ’80s offered – shrieking guitars and sappy ballads by Bon Jovi, Foreigner, Styx, Poison, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Whitesnake, Starship, Twisted Sister, Motley Crue and Journey to just name a few – this is the show for you.
Golf Tips: Stroke types need the right club
Many golfers continue to try to improve their putting stroke every time they are on the course. As I shared in previous tips, there are two basic stokes. Both strokes are good, but you need to know which stroke is more natural for you.
Sweating out stress, finding calm in hot yoga
What the heck is this popular phenomenon called “hot yoga?” Thanks to the company I work for, I now know. For Christmas, the company offered its employees an annual membership to their choice of several area fitness and health centers. On the list this year was Bikram Yoga Morgan Hill - I decided to sign up and see what it’s all about.
Siri, how funny would you be with me writing your lines?
Recently, Apple put out an ad on LinkedIn for a writer to make Siri (the iPhone virtual assistant) wittier. Um, hello? I parent a teenager. I can bite my tongue, talk like a teen (well, sort of), squeeze information out of a person who never wants to speak to me again and I can even explain the conjugation of several Spanish verbs, despite the fact that I took French.
What are buyers to do in this housing market?
Most of us read the paper, watch the news on TV and pay fairly close attention to what is happening in the economy. Especially after what we’ve experienced in the last few years, many of us have become fixated on the economy and concerned how it might impact our lives.
‘Next To Normal’: A visit into intensity with music
Let's go to the theatre. We’re going to see a play about a woman with a manic-depressive personality and how she and her family cope, and it's a pop-rock musical! Huh?
Thoughts regarding the best inventions ‘since sliced bread’
There is great news for all of us. In a recent news release, I learned that the greatest invention “since sliced bread” has been announced. Well, it turned out to be a play on words. This invention was something that kept bread from turning moldy. Now that’s important to some, I guess. But does it qualify as one of the greatest inventions? I think not. Besides, I find that, if you eat the bread before it has a chance to get moldy, the problem is solved.
