Naked windows? Cover them up beautifully

Do you have naked windows? Or a view that needs framing? Sun in you face when you're trying to sleep? The right window treatment can dress your windows, be a focal point in your design, solve problems and increase the energy efficiency of your home.

New homes are back

Almost everywhere you look, formally littered lots as well as vacant parcels are being developed into new homes. As we drive around Morgan Hill there is everything from low-income senior apartments to luxury homes and everything in between.

Holidays are just around the corner …

I know, it's not even Halloween yet! I get as annoyed as the next guy when I see Christmas showing up in the stores before Labor Day; however, I felt this was a timely message as many of you are about to begin the annual holiday shopping expedition!

Church welcomes new pastor

In July, members and friends of the Hollister United Methodist Church (521 Monterey St., Hollister) welcomed the Rev. Martha Milk.

‘Na Lei Hula’

Founded in 1985 by director/kumu hula Patrick Makuakane and his company of 40 dancers, it’s known for its unique contemporary style called hula mua, or “hula that evolves.” The style blends traditional movements with non-Hawaiian music like opera, electronic, dance, alternative and pop. Crunch Time: Don’t like seeing LA in the playoffs? Look no further than San Francisco for the blame

Rules you must follow to survive Halloween

As we all know, the season of ghosts and goblins is upon us. For many of us (and by that I mean me) the season is filled with horrors that are unimaginable - and I'm not just talking about leftover candy. Mainly because in my house, there's no such thing as leftover candy.

Celebrate with pumpkin cupcakes

Before I present my Halloween themed column, I am thrilled to share information about an exciting, unique and delicious event and dining experience. The inaugural “Farm to Table Harvest Celebration” is Saturday, Nov. 2, and encompasses the philosophy of “eating local.” I was fortunate to preview the menu, which showcases South Valley produce, beef breed and feed in Santa Clara County and local wines. The talents of seven chefs are featured with wine pairings for each course. If you have a passion for food, do not miss this event. It is anticipated to become a premiere food experience in the entire bay area. Details: Santa Clara County Farm Bureau at (408) 776-1684.

Our only professional sports event and we have to wave goodbye

Gorgeous time of year Indian Summer is in the Hayes Valley in San Martin where the PGA Golf professionals show up to play each fall in early October. Crisp CordeValle Golf Resort mornings yield to sunshiny warm afternoons at the Frys.Com Open. The views are as soothing as a Fred Couple’s swing. It’s a walk in a natural park interrupted by occasional roars from the happy crowd, announcements on the first tee … please welcome our 11:22 a.m. pairing … Two-time major champion Angel Cabrera from Argentina … and next to tee off 1997 British Open Champion Justin Leonard from Dallas, Texas ... and bellows from the beer-for-birdies bunch at the pavilion aside the 17th green.
