Mario Calderon

Police are looking for a man who shot one victim and struck another on the head with a hammer early Thursday morning in Morgan Hill.
The suspect in the attack, Mario Calderon, 33, might be on his way to Mexico, according to Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Jose Cardoza. The alleged attacker left the scene of the crime driving a white 1994 Acura Integra, license number 6VDL974.
Calderon, who is from the San Jose area, is likely armed and dangerous, Cardoza said.
Deputies responded to the area of Peebles Avenue and Calle Moniz in unincorporated north Morgan Hill about 3:04 a.m. Thursday, in response to a 911 call reporting a shooting incident, Cardoza said.
The caller reported that a 45-year-old man had been shot in the arm with an unknown caliber firearm, and a 25-year-old man had been hit on the head with a hammer, Cardoza said.
The incident “doesn’t appear to be gang-related,” though investigators were still trying to determine a motive Thursday afternoon, Cardoza said. Both victims and the suspect had been drinking alcohol prior to the attack.
The attack happened on a rural property that contains a number of homes, including some trailer homes, Cardoza said. The attack happened outside one of the trailer homes. The victims were not armed.
The suspect and victims all knew each other, but investigators did not specify how they knew each other. Witnesses have provided information to the sheriff’s office that might help locate Calderon.
Paramedics were summoned to treat the victims’ injuries, Cardoza said. The victims were transported to an unidentified hospital, but their injuries are not life threatening.
The suspect was gone from the scene before authorities arrived, police said.
Although a photo of Calderon released by the sheriff’s office depicts the suspect with short black hair, he currently sports a shaved head, Cardoza said.
Calderon is about 5 feet, 6 inches tall, and 180 pounds, authorities said.
If anyone sees the suspect they should use “extreme caution” and should call 911 immediately, Cardoza said.
