Teachers union hosts the town at inaugural festival
Swarms of residents stopped by P.A. Walsh Steam Academy to enjoy a free, fun-filled day of activities and events amongst all the local school communities April 23, as the Morgan Hill Federation of Teachers hosted its inaugural Friends and Family Festival.
Spotlight of the Week: Breakfast with Santa
There was a lot of 'Ho ho ho-ing' at San Martin/Gwinn Elementary School's annual Breakfast with Santa, a family-oriented event that raised funds for the school. More than 800 people ate breakfast cooked by volunteers, create holiday crafts and visit with Santa. Approximately $11,000 was raised to help pay for field trips and other school events.
Helping the Troops
Students at Barrett Elementary School wanted a project that would allow them to reach out and help others during the "giving season." The school's student council members decided a great way to give would be to show support for U.S. troops oversees. Students collected goodies - including lots of candy - to ship to a battalion in Iraq. The care packages were assembled last week and shipped out, hopefully reaching the troops by the holidays.
Gilroy parents, teachers join the push for Morgan Hill charter school
The second step towards bringing a new charter school to the Morgan Hill Unified School District was completed Tuesday as the Board of Education hosted a pubic hearing “to determine the level of support for the petition by teachers, employees of the district and parents/guardians.”
