A new Santa Clara County Civil Grand Jury was sworn in at a ceremony held June 29, according to the Superior Court of California. The new panel includes two Morgan Hill residents, Kenneth Hulick and Walt Keeshen.

The Honorable Alden Danner, Presiding Judge of the Superior Court, County of Santa Clara, announced the appointment of Ronald Layman (San Jose) as Foreperson. Layman previously served on the 2001-2002 and 2002-2003 Grand Juries.

The Civil Grand Jury, as the County’s watchdog agency, has the authority to examine all aspects of county and city government and special districts and the authority to inspect local adult and juvenile detention facilities. The 2006-2007 Civil Grand Jury will serve until June 30, 2007.

The other members of the 2006-2007 panel are: Edward Auch (Cupertino), Virginia Balch (Campbell), Raymond Blockie, Jr. (Los Gatos), David Burnham (San Jose), Dixie Carney (Sunnyvale), James Ducey (Mountain View), Patricia Flynn Duran (San Jose), Ernest Giachetti (San Jose), George Gibson (Santa Clara), Magda Grant (Palo Alto), Charles Gullo, Jr. (San Jose), Kathryn Philp (Saratoga), Raymond Rogoway (San Jose), Louis Romantino (San Jose), Danforth Sturges (San Jose), and Gilbert Villagrán (San Jose).
