Morgan Hill – A 20-year-old man who was charged with assault with deadly weapon after a fight in Gilroy was arrested by Morgan Hill Police Friday night.
Raymond Cavazos of Morgan Hill was booked into Santa Clara County Jail on an outstanding felony warrant, according to MHPD Cmdr. David Swing.
MHPD Officer Jason Broyer stopped Cavazos at 10:15pm at Tennant Avenue and Highway 101 after seeing him driving erratically, swerving and driving over the lane dividers. Broyer suspected Cavazos might be driving under the influence, Swing said.
Broyer arrested Cavazos without incident after learning of the outstanding warrant. Cavazos was originally arrested Jan. 28 after a fight on Adams Court in east Gilroy. More than 40 people, attending two different house parties, flooded into the street where two men grappled. Police say Cavazos stabbed another man multiple times, slicing his upper torso; the victim was airlifted to a nearby trauma center and survived.
When police arrived, partygoers fled, jumping from one nearby rooftop to the next. Eight officers pursued them but most escaped.
A much smaller gathering in Morgan Hill this Saturday was also broken up by officers.
At 3pm, Cpl. Ray Ramos and Officer Kyle Christensen responded to a report of a disturbance in the Vineyard Town Center. Swing said several men work in the parking lot of the center working on their vehicles and drinking alcohol.
“Within a few feet of where they were hanging out, officers found a backpack containing 19 grams of marijuana, along with approximately 200 dime baggies, small plastic baggies commonly used in drug sales,” Swing said. “Also inside the backpack was a pill bottle with the name of one of the people we arrested.”
Ramos and Christensen arrested Joe Lampkin, 24, of Morgan Hill for possession of a switchblade and a parole violation, Jonathan Cross, 18, of Morgan Hill for possession of marijuana for sale and Forestt Noble, 20, of Morgan Hill for possession of marijuana for sale and probation violation.
All three men were booked into Santa Clara County Jail.
