Guglielmo Winery in east Morgan Hill will celebrate its milestone 90th anniversary Sept. 12.
That marks the day Emilio Guglielmo signed the deed to take possession of the original 15 acres that started the vineyard and winery on East Main Avenue, according to Cindy Adams, Marketing Director for Guglielmo Winery.
The winery has remained in the family since that day, with Emilio’s grandsons George E., Gene and Gary operating the facility that has grown to 82 acres on the original estate property.
“When our grandfather first purchased the property, it was only 15 acres and the house we grew up in,” said George E. Guglielmo, eldest of the brothers and Head Winemaker. “Over time the family was able to purchase the surrounding property, add a larger winemaking facility, tasting room and multi-purpose event center.”
Gene Guglielmo, Director of Sales and the middle brother, added, “After his service in World War Two our father, George W., joined the business. He married our mother, Madeline, and together they continued making wines and building the business through their hard work and hospitality.”
The family and the winery will celebrate with a “black tie optional” gala at the winery grounds, 1480 E. Main Ave., from 6 to 10 p.m. Sept. 12. The event will include a gourmet dinner, a meet and greet with the Guglielmo brothers, an unveiling of the special 90th anniversary wine and a musical performance by Joe Lenigan and his 15-piece band.
“It’s not that often that any business makes it to 90 years, especially in the same family and at the same location,” said youngest brother and General Manager Gary Guglielmo. “We’re proud of what our family has accomplished and want to celebrate by thanking our loyal customers and welcoming new ones.”
