Big rig crash sends six to hospital with minor injuries

One Morgan Hill resident’s reservations about giving his personal information and a cash donation to a pair of young men claiming to be fundraising for their soccer team’s trip may have been well-founded.

According to Director Todd Kimble with Orchard Valley Youth Soccer League, there are no competitive or recreational teams within OVYSL that are currently fundraising for a trip to Spain.

Last week, two door-to-door solicitors knocked on the door of a Morgan Hill resident. The solicitors claimed to be from a local team called the Strikers, who supposedly play their games at the Morgan Hill Soccer Complex.

The solicitors told the resident they were recently featured in a newspaper article. One said he lived on a neighboring street near Sunrise Drive.

The resident was then handed a pamphlet for children’s books and asked if he was interested in purchasing one and having it donated to the hospital of his choice. Becoming suspicious of the two men, he asked if they had any documentation of their fundraiser, anything identifying their team and where the money would be going. The solicitors did not have any of the requested items.

Sgt. Troy Hoefling said the Morgan Hill Police Department did not receive any calls about a possible scam, but instructed residents to always “question them, ask for proof, ask for references and see if they have identification of the club or organization they’re representing,” when approached by solicitors.

Under these circumstances, residents should call police on the non-emergency line at (408) 779-2101.
