During a break at the Morgan Hill Urban Limit Line meeting on Feb. 9, I inadvertently overheard a heated, asserted conversation directed at Mayor Dennis Kennedy. Later, publicly, the topic of the assertion was directed to the public, but the context had changed its tune.
I wish to complement Mayor Kennedy for adhering to the integrity of public reporting and for not excluding selective member(s), by request, for the Urban Limit line Subcommittee appointment speech. Regardless of who was appointed and who was not, the public deserves to know the whole story, in support of the principles found in the American Democratic system.
We need and deserve to know, as Americans and the public, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, without any requested exclusions or deletions, regardless of who is involved, in order to have trust and confidence in any elected official. A government by, of and for the people, is a principle that we should remember from one of the greatest presidents, Abraham Lincoln.
Mayor Kennedy was in a “darned if you do and darned if you don’t” position. He did the right thing by adhering to the principle of integrity and ethics and not hiding facts. (Historical precedents over time further support the mayor in his decision to reveal.)
Thank you, Mayor Kennedy, for setting a positive and respected example that should be followed by all government officials. We especially appreciate the qualities when we, ourselves, may have encountered different, a different time, a different place, by a different entity, but know the ideal way our American government should be.
