Louise Galdos Branum passed away in Hollister at the age of 101 on Tuesday, July 12, 2011. Louise was a native of Amador, CA and had been a resident of San Benito County since 1925.

She was a graduate of Hollister High School and a member of Sacred Heart Parish. She was the first woman hired by K&S Market (Klauer & Savio) when the store was located on San Benito Street. She continued to work as a grocery checker for the market for 50 years until she retired.

“Louise was very family oriented, her family was such a big part of her life, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren”, said her daughter Frances.

She loved cooking, singing the songs of the 40’s and 50’s with family, and in years past “going to the Sierra Nevada Club and other casinos at Lake Tahoe”.

Louise was predeceased by husbands John Barnes, Laurence Gomez, and Harold Branum; children Mark Gomez and Marie “Honey” Cuncha; two grandchildren; and six siblings. Her survivors are her daughter Frances Manus Galvin (John), and son Pete Gomez (Maxine) both of Hollister; her sisters Laura Baughman, Juanita Marcus, and Carmen Vieira (Dick); sister-in-law Bernice Galdos; 13 grandchildren, 28 great- grandchildren, numerous great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home chapel on Sunday, July 17th, 2011 from 1:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Family and friends will leave the mortuary Monday morning at 9:30 A.M. for a Mass Of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Church at 10:00 A.M. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Because of her love for children donations are preferred to St. Jude Children’s Hospital c/o Grunnagle Ament Nelson Funeral Home.
