The Live Oak High boys basketball team’s first trip to the Central Coast Section playoffs since 2006 was made official Sunday night.

The Acorns (12-12) were placed into the Division III bracket and will face the San Mateo Bearcats (14-12) on their home court tonight at 7 p.m. The winner will have to go on the road and face Aptos (20-6) on Thursday.

The Live Oak girls soccer team (13-5-2) also found out its CCS playoff schedule as well Sunday. Not getting the bye they expected, the Acorns will face off against Gilroy’s Christopher High (12-6-2) this Wednesday at Live Oak at 2:30 p.m.

The Live Oak campus and soccer field are familiar sites for CHS head coach Janae Pimentel, who played for Tony Vasquez’s Acorns and won a CCS title her senior year in 2004.

The Acorns finished runner-up in Division II a season ago, falling to Valley Christian in the finals, 2-1.

The winner will face No. 4 Pioneer (16-0-4) on Saturday.
