Ben and Kathy Corpuz’s family is not going to run out of lemonade any time soon.

Last Saturday, Ben discovered giant-sized lemons growing on a tree at the Morgan Hill home he moved into with his family 18 months ago.

The lemon tree has always had an abundance of lemons, but before last week, the family had only picked normal-sized lemons from the tree

“I make lots of juice from lemons off this tree, but I never had one this big, let alone a family of big lemons!” Ben exclaimed.

To give an idea of the size of the lemons he picked from the tree, a “regular” lemon has a circumference of about 7 inches and is just under three inches in height. The largest in the Corpuz family of lemons has a circumference of 18 inches and is six inches tall, but they have several other gigantic specimens in their possession.

Ben chuckled and claimed he has not done anything out of the ordinary to the lemon tree in the past year except water it with city water.

“I’ve fertilized the grass around it, but not paid much attention to the tree,” he said.

Apparently, Ben has a green thumb, according to Kathy. “He cares for our yard and the roses,” said Kathy.

The lemons, however, are not the first experience the Corpuz family has had with enormous produce. A couple of years ago, Ben had a vegetable garden in their other home and harvested a zucchini that was 17 inches long – longer than the size of their newborn son, Benjamin.

“I had a picture taken with the zucchini and the baby,” Ben grinned proudly.

The Corpuz family moved to Morgan Hill from San Jose four years ago. They have four children – Benjamin, 14; Deana, 13; Jozef, 8; and Kenneth, 5.

Ben is a printer in San Jose and Kathy works for Premier Real Estate and Mortgage Services, also in San Jose.
