San Jose – A local martial arts academy made a big name for itself with a stellar showing at the Tae Kwon Do Junior Olympics held at the San Jose Convention Center July 11-15.

King’s Martial Arts Academy, located at 380 Tennant Ave No. 8 had 11 youth from around the South Valley win medals in divisions from forms to sparring.

More than 3,000 competitors ages 7-17 years old came from as far away as Alaska to compete for medals and bragging rights in one of the largest youth martial arts showcases in the North America.

The following participants from King’s Martial Arts Academy earned medals: Sarah Peru – bronze in forms and sparring; Nick Panos – bronze in forms and sparring; Jeremy Honda – bronze in sparring; Zachary Headly – gold in forms and sparring; Eric Nakamoto – gold in sparring; Travis LeVell – bronze in forms; Katie Rounds – silver in forms; Shelby Wallace – bronze in forms; Jessica Phendler – bronze in forms; Jacqueline Quirke – bronze in forms; Michael Quintana – gold in forms.

Other members of the team who also competed are Alex Panos, Anthony Schreuders, Christopher Honda, Connor Rounds, Richie Bermuda, Nick Peru, Michelle Nakahama, and Christopher Somera.

Head coach for the south county Junior. Olympic team is Grace LeVell.

Assistant coaches are Tony deLeon, Maria Lamas, Eric LeVell, Jose LeVell, and Nicole LeVell.
