PG&E crews will be at the site of a ruptured gas line in east Morgan Hill for a few more hours making repairs after a leak resulted in the evacuation of nearby properties.
A construction crew hit a one-inch gas line at a site on Condit Road the morning of March 17, according to Morgan Hill Fire Department Battalion Chief Tim Main. The rupture occurred on the north side of the Holiday Inn Express hotel.
The hotel as well as nearby businesses, including McDonald’s and Jack In The Box restaurants, were evacuated, Main said.
Fire crews detected a “minimal amount of gas” inside the hotel shortly after the rupture was reported, Main said.
PG&E responded and clamped off the broken gas line, stopping the leak. As of 12:30 p.m., authorities lifted the evacuation order and were “repopulating” the affected businesses, Main said.
