Live Oak hosted many popular school events for the student body and are busy preparing for many more. Live Oak is also focused on the spring sports teams and the upcoming Junior Prom. Live Oak designed an active month for both students and staff.

On March 15, Live Oak held its annual Battle of the Bands. The Battle of the Bands gave student bands an opportunity to showcase their talent. Each band performed for approximatley 10 minutes and was judged by a teacher panel. First place was awarded to Subaerial, second went to Know You’re Waking and Crackerbox placed third.

On Saint Patrick’s Day, a group of leadership and ASB members traveled to Monte Vista High School to attend a leadership conference. Our students attended numerous leadership classes hosted by students from other high schools. They also attended a lecture given by a motivational speaker. It was a wonderful opportunity for our students to gather new ideas and to meet new people.

In addition, Live Oak’s ASB is busy preparing for the “feeder rally” on April 3. A “feeder rally” is where Live Oak students travel to Britton and Martin Murphy and host a rally for the freshmen.

The purpose of the rally is to introduce all the Live Oak clubs, sports, and other activities. The day after the feeder rally is the Spring Sports rally at Live Oak. The Spring Sports rally will showcase all the sports of the season. The rally will also include a first-time performance from the Mecha club, a club promoting Chicano/Mexican heritage. BSU and the cheerleaders are also scheduled to perform.

Friday, March 28, is Junior Prom. Junior Prom will be held at the Capitol Club in San Jose. Tickets are on sale in the ASB office for $25 per person. School releases at 12:45 on Friday so all students have an opportunity to get ready for the prom.

As always, Live Oak students and staff are very busy. There have been many exciting activities to attend and many more to look forward to. Live Oak’s Drama Guild will also be performing its spring musical, Sweet Charity, in April. So come out and support your Nuts!

Katrina Sparacino, a senior at Live Oak, is commissioner of academics and a part of the Live Oak Dance Company. She and other student body officers write a weekly column on a rotating basis.
