The re-election of Mayor Steve Tate, and the election of Gordon Siebert and Rich Constantine to City Council says voters in Morgan Hill are happy with the way the city is run and don’t want drastic change. Both Siebert and Constantine ran a campaign praising the city for its vision and promising to continue that vision. Tate collected 53 percent of the vote, beating Art College, who garnered 30 percent, and Marby Lee, who garnered 17 percent.

Siebert, who garnered 16.6 percent of the vote, said he wants to maintain fiscal discipline and to use the Redevelopment Agency as a tool to help assist private businesses in developing a successful, vibrant downtown as a destination for residents and visitors.

Constantine, who garnered 23 percent, said he wants to ensure that residents’ concerns are heard loud and clear by those who make changes in policy and ensure that “the faith with the community is never broken.”

It should be noted that Lee Schmidt, in third place, is about 200 votes behind with about 3,000 provisional ballots still to count,

Taking a stand and running is not easy and we congratulate all 19 candidates – including those who ran for seats on the Morgan Hill Unified School Board of Trustees – who threw their hat into the ring.

It shows how much they care about this community.

Now we ask them, what are your plans to keep the city financially stable? What are your plans to bring new businesses to Morgan Hill and get the economic engine humming?

We urge both newcomers, Mayor Tate and current council members Larry Carr and Marilyn Librers to keep the city moving forward, to listen to the community, and be as transparent as possible.

We remind them that their duty is to the residents of this city, not to any agenda or ideology.
