A concert June 3 starts off the 13th Annual Friday Night Music Series, presented by the Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce. This free concert series, held downtown, 7-9pm, every Friday night from June 3 to Sept. 16, is a community favorite.

Residents – and some from distant cities – arrive early with folding chairs to stake out positions on West Second Street at Monterey Road. After browsing in shops or dining – often alfresco – they settle in to listen to the band of the day and watch people of all ages dance in the street.

The series is run completely by volunteers and is funded solely by donations and sponsorships. Volunteers come out every Friday to set up and tear down the stage, put up the sponsor banners, run the sound system and take care of details.

The dedicated, hardworking committee includes Bob Snow, Design Factory Graphics; Brad Jones, BookSmart, Thinker Toys and Caffee, Kaffee, Vin; Garrie Bryant, Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce and Judi Chan representing The Morgan Hill Kiwanis.

This year, the chamber hopes to collect enough money to buy a much-needed new stage, which is loaned out for the 4th of July festivities, Taste of Morgan Hill and other community events.

Donations and sponsorships are still needed to help pay for the bands, new equipment and a new stage.

Details on sponsoring the music series, contact Michele Naylor, Special Events Director, at mn*****@mo********.org or 779-9444.
