Bike Detection Loops to be Installed on Monterey Road
New bike detector loops will soon be installed along Monterey Road. The city recently awarded the $36,455 contract for the project to Beltramo Electric, Inc.
The project includes replacing and adding new detector loops with bicycle sensitive detector loops at signalized intersections along Monterey Road, between Watsonville Road and Burnett Avenue. Loop detector pavement markings will also be installed where appropriate.
The project is scheduled to begin construction in late September and completed by November. Beltramo Electric’s bid was 24 percent higher than the engineer’s estimate of $29,350, according to the city report.
The total construction cost for the project is $40,000, which includes a 10 percent contingency of $3,600. The city will use a $36,000 grant from the Metropolitan Transportation Commission’s Transportation Development Act to fund the project.
